EPA steps up role in Keith cleanup By CHARIS ANDERSON New Bedford Standard-Times (MA) October 15, 2009NEW BEDFORD - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is expanding its involvement in the ongoing cleanup of the area surrounding the new Keith Middle School by committing to reviewing the data collected so far and identifying what additional testing might be needed. EPA Region 1 acting Regional Administrator Ira W. Leighton outlined the commitment in an Oct. 13 letter written in response to concerns about the cleanup raised by Citizens Leading Environmental Action Network and other community members over the past several months and at a recent community meeting. "As a result of the views expressed at the meeting and through CLEAN's advocacy, EPA and DEP have developed a plan ... that will commit significant state and federal resources to address these issues," wrote Leighton. ....
