Zidell plans waterfront development by Eli Segall Daily Journal of Commerce - Oregon December 22, 2009Zidell, the Portland maritime firm, says it wants to turn its industrial property along the Willamette River into a "spectacular mixed-use" development, though most of the land must undergo a state-required environmental cleanup. The property runs along the west bank of the Willamette, from the Marquam Bridge to just south of the Ross Island Bridge. Zidell submitted a permit application last week to remediate 18 acres of it, and says the work will cost $20 million. The main contaminant there is PCBs, or polychlorinated biphenyls, "a known cancer causing agent," said Keith Johnson, cleanup program manager for the state Department of Environmental Quality. ...
