Portfields region desirable even without initiative, developer says By Evelyn Lee NJ Biz (NJ) December 28, 2009Five years after the launch of the Portfields Initiative, industry insiders have differing views as to the significance and success of the program. While most agree the effort has helped promote warehouse and distribution development on brownfield sites in New Jersey's port region, some contend that those properties would have been redeveloped even without the help of the initiative. "The whole concept of this [Portfields Initiative] was really to get the word out that there are sites near the port … that can be developed to accommodate warehouse and distribution space," said Robert Kossar, managing director at the Hasbrouck Heights office of commercial real estate services firm Jones Lang LaSalle.
