Residents in polluted Pompton Lakes neighborhood want solutions now BY ELAINE D’AURIZIO The Record (NJ) January 14, 2010 POMPTON LAKES - Get rid of the pollution, or buy me out.That's the increasingly strident demand of residents of a DuPont-polluted neighborhood. And they want the Borough Council's support. But the residents' demand would be a radical change from the current status quo. Currently, DuPont, the state, and the borough are in line with DuPont's program of installing venting equipment in homes threatened by toxic vapors rising from underground chemical pollution. Meanwhile, DuPont says it cannot dig out toxic subsoils because the pollution is deeply embedded, so it is researching ways the chemical solvents can be broken down. Some 100 residents pressed their point Wednesday night before the Borough Council, demanding more communication from the governing body. And they urged DuPont, which has taken responsibility for the pollution, to get rid of the poisonous vapors invading homes or buy them out. ...
