Dump site by Landfall could go up for sale By Patricia E. Matson Wilmington Star News (NC) January 25, 2010A nearly forgotten landfill owned by Wrightsville Beach shows little evidence of contamination except for an elevated copper level in some surface water, according to a recent report. External Links:Before long, the town may be able to market the 4.8-acre site, located in a potentially valuable spot off Military Cutoff Road, near Landfall. Bought by the town in 1937, the land was used for a few years as a dumping ground for debris disposal after Hurricane Hazel in 1954. In late 2007, the town started investigating the possibility of selling it and found that environmental testing would be necessary. ...
