City eyes Target landOfficials consider buying south Glendale plot for parkland, but site comes with risks. By Melanie Hicken Glendale News Press (CA) February 22, 2010CITY HALL - City officials are in negotiations with Target to buy a 9.5-acre south Glendale property that environmental officials say is a major contributor to chromium 6 groundwater contamination. The property at 5426 San Fernando Road - which county records show Target bought for nearly $22 million in 2006 - is the former site of aerospace company PRC-DeSoto. The site is within the federal Environmental Protection Agency's Superfund area. Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Board and EPA officials are coordinating the area's cleanup. City Councilman and Redevelopment Agency Chairman John Drayman on Monday confirmed the negotiations, which were listed on the City Council's closed-session agenda. Drayman said he would advocate for the land to be used as a park, adding that he was not at liberty to discuss the negotiations. ...
