State to study soil, groundwater beneath Hillcrest neighborhood By Denise Malan Corpus Christi Caller-Times (TX) March 6, 2010CORPUS CHRISTI - When Hillcrest residents get together, they trade stories about noises and fumes coming from the industries near their homes. They talk about the rotten egg smells, the headaches and dizziness they believe are caused by pollution. "You never really know what those people are doing," said Ruben M. Washington, who has lived with his wife Chris in the Northside neighborhood for 50 years. Residents might soon know more about another potential source of contamination, one they can't see, hear or smell. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is studying the groundwater and soil beneath Hillcrest for harmful chemicals. ...
