DuPont balks at granting guarantee for home value in Pompton Lakes

Although some Plume area residents have requested it, DuPont has stated 
there was no need to offer a value protection program at this point in 
the remediation of contamination in their neighborhoods.

In January, the Borough Council sent a letter to DuPont requesting that 
it offer a value protection plan. Residents requested this assistance 
because they believe the installation of vapor mitigation systems onto 
their homes would decrease their property values.

DuPont operated a munitions plant in the borough from 1902 until 1994. 
In the 1980s it was discovered that the groundwater and nearby waters 
were contaminated as a result of the operations at the plant.
