Plume area residents in Pompton Lakes want their homes healthy BY LESLIE SCOTT Suburban Trends (NJ) April 28, 2010Some residents who live in the Plume are encountering one obstacle after another in getting mitigation of toxic vapors in their homes. Several residents have commented time and again that they did not want DuPont or the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) installing vapor mitigation systems in their homes. Help came when the residents were allowed to pick from a list of DEP-approved contractors to perform the installation. Plume area resident Darcy Kamp recently chose one of these contractors to get a vapor mitigation system installed in her home only to get her initial estimate rejected by the DEP. The DEP did later approve the estimate, but Kamp still can't do a thing until a baseline test is completed. This test shows the amount and type of vapors that are seeping into Plume-area homes. Without it, there would be no sense in installing a system because it cannot be determined if it is working properly. ...
