Studies in Pompton Lakes find minimal threat from airborne toxic vapors BY JAMES M. O'NEILL The Record (NJ) June 3, 2010POMPTON LAKES - State officials say air tests show only a negligible health risk from vaporized toxic solvents emitted by a machine cleaning polluted groundwater flowing from DuPont's closed munitions plant. The testing was done after residents raised fears DuPont's airstripping device was removing the carcinogenic solvents only to create an airborne health threat. Residents also have worried about potential air pollution from venting systems the state Department of Environmental Protection has urged them to install on their homes as toxic vapors percolate through soil beneath their homes. But again, the tests show the health risks to be negligible. ...
