DEC releases dry cleaner cleanup plans Clinton West and Campagnolo properties studied By Krisy Gashler Ithaca Journal (NY) July 9, 2010The state Department of Environmental Conservation has released final cleanup decisions for two former Ithaca dry cleaners: the Clinton West Plaza on West Clinton Street and the Campagnolo property at 315 N. Meadow St. Both properties were identified by the state as "Class 2" sites "where hazardous waste presents a significant threat to public health or the environment and action is required." Both properties formerly hosted dry cleaning operations on site that used tetrachloroethylene, PCE or PERC. ...At Clinton West, PERC in groundwater was detected at between 2 and 1,600 parts per billion. PERC's breakdown components, trichloroethylene, or TCE, cis-1,2-Dichloroethene, DCE, and vinyl chloride were also detected above acceptable levels -- up to 600 ppb, 2,800 ppb and 380 ppb, respectively. State guidelines for all of the chemicals are 5 ppb or lower. ...
