Chemicals halt plans for ECFE facility

Stillwater schools will have to find a new home for its Early Childhood 
Family Center after an environmental study found perchloroethylene (PCE) 
at the UFE complex.

School board members are expected to terminate the purchase agreement at 
their Aug. 12 meeting, and have already directed district staff to 
explore other locations for Early Childhood programs.

While the MPCA and environmental engineers told district administrators 
that the affected area could be cleaned up, the board agreed with the 
administration's recommendation to terminate the purchase agreement.
