Report: Contaminated groundwater no threat to Mountain Top residents BILL WELLOCK Wilkes-Barre Citizens-Voice (PA) August 18, 2010The groundwater around Church Road in Mountain Top is still contaminated, but a report concludes the residents aren't at risk. A report from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, a federal public health agency, says exposure to chemicals from the site is not expected to pose a risk to residents, because most residents get their water from the public supply. "Residential well water samples collected in 2004 showed levels of TCE (trichloroethylene) above the current Environmental Protection Agency's maximum contaminant level (MCL), for drinking water. However, since 2004, the residents have been supplied with alternative drinking water and subsequently hooked up to public water supply, with the exception of one residential property, and are not a current pathway of exposure." ...
