This is another case of people being told their indoor air is safe based
upon an unprotective standard. In my part of the country (and many
others), 7 micrograms per cubic meter of TCE in residential indoor air
would lead to the immediate installation of a vapor mitigation system.
This is based on the old standard, not EPA's draft toxicity assessment,
which would call for even more protective thresholds.
Once again I call on EPA to quickly issue a standard for TCE in indoor air, covering both cancer and non-cancer risks. People who live in impacted homes don't appreciate the inconsistency, and they won't be happy when they are told that they were previously evaluated against a standard that was found to be unprotective.
