Controversial Tallevast Rd/U.S. 301 Land Ordinance Passes 3-2 At
Tuesday's BCC Land Use Meeting
by Doug Miles Bradenton Times (FL) October 13, 2010MANATEE - A controversial ordinance involving a parcel of land on Tallevast Rd. and U.S. 301 narrowly passed at Tuesday's BCC land use meeting. The ordinance, known as PDC-04-16 (Z) (P) Covered Bridge Holdings II, LLC/The Forum involves a 3.05 acre parcel requested to be rezoned as Planned Development Commercial (PDC). Several Tallevast area residents addressed their opposition to the ordinance before the commission on Tuesday, citing their concerns over traffic problems, noise, compatibility and potential water contamination. The site at the northwest corner of Tallevast Rd. and U.S. 301 is close to a known ground water contamination area from the American Beryllium Company, which once occupied 1600 Tallevast Rd. According to the county's natural resources director Ron Brown, the water wells on this particular parcel are not effected by that contamination and none has been detected since a study in April of 2009. ...
