News Release New York State Department of Environmental Conservation October 13, 2010 DEC Certifies Completed Cleanups at Two Rochester SitesCity of Rochester and Erie Harbor Successfully Remove Contamination and Prepare Sites for Redevelopment ALBANY, NY (readMedia)-- Two formerly contaminated brownfields in Rochester are officially cleaned up and poised for redevelopment, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Pete Grannis announced today. The sites along Gregory Street and Mount Hope Avenue are the latest clean-ups completed under the state's Brownfield Cleanup Program, an initiative that provides significant benefits such as potential tax credits for the investigation and removal of pollution to help protect public health, enhance natural resources and increase opportunities for economic development. "Now that years of past contamination have been properly addressed, these sites have a bright future," Commissioner Grannis said. "No matter the economic climate, it is always good policy to encourage economic investment in environmental priorities like the cleanup of polluted sites.
