Southington Gets Grant To Assess Site For Cleanup Town Hopes It's A Step Toward Redeveloping Beaton & Corbin Parcel By KEN BYRON Hartford Courant (CT) November 9, 2010SOUTHINGTON - The town is hoping that a $100,000 federal grant could help encourage the redevelopment of the long-abandoned Beaton & Corbin Manufactoring Co. site. The grant will pay for an environmental assessment of the site on North Main Street. The Beaton & Corbin factory used metal plating for its products, and contaminants from the process have polluted the site. The company closed in 1989 and the factory building burned down in 2003. Town officials are eager to get the vacant parcel redeveloped because of its busy location and proximity to downtown. But an environmental assessment is needed. Louis Perillo, the town's economic development coordinator, said previoius environmental assessments, performed before the fire, are out of date. ...
