City receives grant to rehab old battery plant site By Carl Burnett Jr. Lancaster Eagle-Gazette (OH) November 19, 2010LANCASTER - The cleanup of a former battery plant and brownfield site on South Ewing Street will begin after a grant was approved Friday by the Clean Ohio Council. The council on Friday approved a grant totaling $1,477,238 with a 25 percent local match to clean up the site and make it reusable. "This is another piece of good news for the city," said Lancaster Economic Development Director Mike Pettit. The 5-acre parcel of land, 330 S. Ewing St., which once was the home of both Frick-Gallagher and a Ray-O-Vac battery company, was purchased by the Lancaster Port Authority in November 2007 for $10,000. ...
