News Release New York State Department of Environmental Conservation December 29, 2010 DEC Finishes Cleanup at Pura-14 Site in Poughkeepsie State Clears Site for RedevelopmentALBANY, NY (readMedia)-- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced today that the cleanup of a formerly contaminated parcel near the City of Poughkeepsie waterfront has officially been completed. Parties involved with the site at 36 Pine Street utilized redevelopment incentives offered by DEC to assist and encourage remediation of contaminated parcels for cleanup and re-investment. "Another industrial legacy has been addressed as a result of the hard work of public and private parties and the incentives offered by the state's brownfields programs," Acting DEC Commissioner Peter Iwanowicz said. "This site near Poughkeepsie's waterfront has been uplifted from a liability to an asset that will help attract new development and grow the region's economy." Known as "PURA-14," the site was investigated in 2005 by the City of Poughkeepsie and the City of Poughkeepsie Industrial Development Agency through DEC's Environmental Restoration Program (ERP). The ERP reimbursed municipalities for the investigation and cleanup of brownfields. For this project, DEC provided the City of Poughkeepsie approximately $100,000 for the investigation. ...
