Habuda BUFFALO NEWS (NY) February 6, 2011A townhouse development proposed for the Town of Tonawanda waterfront features walls of windows overlooking the Niagara River and private docks to accommodate the boats of owners and guests. ..."A portion of the site was used by the former United Refinery," said Megan Gollwitzer, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Environmental Conservation. "This portion was remediated to meet commercial level cleanup standards." An oil spill on the adjoining property resulted in contamination, according to Tiedemann. The plan, he said, is to further remediate the affected area for residential use. "We are actually going to dig out any contaminated soil," Tiedemann added. ...
