Fall Brook site has loads of potential Corning Leader (NY) March 2, 2011We can only imagine at this point what the future holds for the site of the former Fall Brook plant in downtown Corning. But the fact that something is in the works is encouraging.The 14-acre vacant lot located just a block off of Market Street is owned by Corning Inc. and is going through the Brownfield cleanup process under the guidance of the state Department of Environmental Conservation. So far, tests show the former glass manufacturing site has contaminants and an action plan to keep the public and environment safe is being developed. Toxins found in the soil are scattered and date back a century or more when a rail yard existed there. Indications are contaminants are well contained on the property and an extensive cleanup involving removing truckloads of dirt is not necessary. ...
