Franklin considers demolishing old Nu-Style building By Brian Benson Milford Daily News (MA) April 4, 2011FRANKLIN - A consultant is recommending the town demolish the former Nu-Style jewelry manufacturing building and remove contaminated soil from the property. "It's a mess and we need to get rid of it," town Planning Director Bryan Taberner said of the 12,000-square-foot mill building on Grove Street. "You're talking a huge amount of money to (remove hazardous building materials, renovate the structure) and reuse it, so that's not necessarily something the town should be considering." Instead, officials hope to use a $200,000 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency brownfields grant plus $40,000 in town money to tear down the building, which was condemned by the town's building inspector in 2005. If money remains, the town could look at removing some contaminated soil, Taberner said. ...
