Feds tell Pompton Lakes residents 'Superfund' listing not needed in
DuPont cleanup
BY MICHELLE LEE THE RECORD (NJ) April 12, 2011POMPTON LAKES - Turning DuPont’s polluted former munitions plant and surrounding contaminated properties into a Superfund site would not change the cleanup process, according to governmental officials. Representatives of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 2 office presented that assessment during two public question-and- answer sessions Tuesday afternoon and evening inside the Father Michael Carnevale Faith Formation Center. Walter Mugdan, EPA Region 2 director of emergency and remedial response division, went over the history of the Superfund program and the Resource Conservation Recovery Act, two governmental programs used to clean sites. ...
