EPA to test Phoenix homes near old Motorola site Feds fear vapors could present health risks over long term by Emily Gersema The Arizona Republic June 10, 2011Contamination from a leak at a Motorola plant in the early 1980s has continued to affect an east Phoenix neighborhood, where scientists worry some residents may be breathing vapors from the spill's pollution as it rises through the soil. Federal officials now say they want to test the inside of residents' homes to make sure there is not an ongoing health risk. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency officials told about 15 residents at a community meeting Wednesday that their preliminary test results from some spots in the Lindon Park neighborhood, near 48th Street and McDowell Road, show some soil samples had unsafe levels of two industrial cleaning chemicals. ...
