Metcalf mill property posing several problems for Rose City By Matt Keeton Ogemaw County Herald (MI) June 28, 2011ROSE CITY - The Rose City Council and the Ogemaw County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority are seeking resolution to several pressing issues surrounding the Metcalf/Mill Pond property, which was deeded to the city in the early 2000s, including a concrete foundation setting above a dam leading into Houghton Creek which has partially collapsed, and threatens to block the creek. According to Rick Benjamin, secretary pro tem of the Rose City Downtown Development Authority, the property once contained a grist mill, built on a dam at the beginning of Houghton Creek, purchased by Charles Sanbeck, and later sold to Glenn and Helen Metcalf in the 1940s, who converted it into a lumber mill. ...
