Winsted's Son-Chief brownfield property deemed top candidate for
'business incubator'
By JASON SIEDZIK Torrington Register Citizen (CT) August 7, 2011WINSTED - A visit to Hartford helped shed some light on the plan to set up a business incubator at one of Winstedâs brownfields sites. The Son-Chief Electrics property, considered by the Northwest Connecticut Economic Development Commission to be a prime candidate for a business incubator, was on the docket for a July 22 meeting in Hartford. Using the property to help grow businesses in town could just be part of a growing trend. "I like the idea of incubators," said Winsted Economic Development Commission chairman Bill Pratt. The building's owners offered to transfer ownership of the facility to the Northwest Connecticut Economic Development Commission, due to its non-profit status. While the Northwest Connecticut Economic Development Commission initially declined the offer - the property does have some contamination and will need remediation - they remain a likely candidate to take over the facility and handle the contaminants. ...
