Fertile future for barren property DEVELOPER PLANS TO CLEAN UP LAND TAINTED BY TOXIC CHEMICALS BY ANDREW KENNEY Cary News (NC) August 30, 2011CARY - A fenced lot near downtown lays well kept but fallow. Developers have shied from the land since the discovery of hazardous chemicals and organics in its soil 25 years ago. Now a developer has state permission to partially clean and eventually redevelop the two acres, which sit just north of the split of East Durham Road and East Chapel Hill Street. The town of Cary has endorsed the partial cleanup project and recently boosted it by waiving a sidewalk construction requirement. Jerry Deakle bought the land in April for about $335,000 from Austin Foods, according to property records. Deakle's company, Reland Development, specializes in contaminated property. ...
