Grant to test former Gardner recycling lot in Cottonwood Jon Hutchinson Verde Independent (AZ) September 8, 2011PHOENIX -- Arizona Department of Environmental Quality officials Wednesday announced that a $51,500 Brownfields grant has been awarded to the City of Cottonwood to complete an environmental evaluation of a former recycling collection site. The site is the former Old Town Cottonwood location of Gardner Recycling at 1032 N. First St. Now that the site is cleared, Cottonwood wants to build a parking lot, park and picnic area on the property. Last October, Cottonwood purchased the property consisting of five small parcels, An environmental site assessment was begun, but not completed, before the purchase of the land. Soil samples indicated that contamination from heavy metals could exist in the soil under large junk piles that remained on the property. ...
