Gladsky Marine Site in Glen Cove Remediated

The Gladsky Marine Site, located along Glen Cove Creek, underwent  
cleanup efforts that commenced in the Spring of 2010 with grants from  
the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s  
Environmental Restoration Program and the United States Environmental  
Protection Agency’s Brownfield Cleanup Program which included funding  
from Nassau County’s Brownfield Revolving Loan Fund. The  
environmental remediation project achieved final construction  
completion in August of 2011.  With remediation of this site  
completed only one parcel awaits cleanup along the entire 52-acre  
waterfront redevelopment area.

This former marina, marine fuel storage and repair facility, was  
closed in 1999.  Subsequent environmental investigations identified  
numerous contaminants, including semi-volatile organic compounds,  
metals and asbestos that required environmental remediation to bring  
the land back to productive reuse.

Engineering services were provided by Dvirka & Bartilucci and  
EnviroTrac, Ltd., a New York based national firm, was awarded the  
remediation work. The NYSDEC and the USEPA provided oversight of all  
cleanup activities.
