Otsego still discussing closed mill with developer

Otsego city officials say they are continuing discussions with a  
developer about the closed Rock Tenn paper mill, despite a current  
Environmental Protection Agency investigation.



City manager Thad Beard gave an update on the activity at the site at  
the city commissionâs at its Monday, Nov. 21, regular meeting.



"The EPA was here two or thee days investigating, cataloguing the  
testing," Beard said. "They don't know if itâs contamination, or of  
what, but they do believe it to be so."

The agency was called in to the closed plant, on Helen Avenue in  
Otsego, after a large amount of unidentified chemicals in barrels and  
totes were found by contractors hired with a grant from the Allegan  
County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority.
