Xenia wins $2M clean-up grant After remediation at site, a biofuels firm to build plant. By Mark Gokavi Dayton Daily News November 29, 2011XENIA - The city of Xenia has been awarded a $1.98 million grant from the Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund for demolition and remediation activities at the former Hooven and Allison Cordage Co. site. State Sen. Chris Widener, R- Springfield, announced Tuesday that the after remediation of the site at 677 Cincinnati Ave., Xenex BioFuels, LLC plans to invest $52 million to develop a portion of the site into a state-of-the-art biofuels production center. The facility is expected to produce 20 million gallons of biodiesel annually and create at least 25 new jobs. “Job creation is priority number one in the state and we must use every tool available to get Ohioans back to work,” Widener said in a press release. “Clean Ohio Funds provide a great way to give abandoned industrial sites new life and create opportunities for our communities.” Xenia City Manager Jim Percival said site and soil evaluations had to be completed before the grant application. He said the entire project is estimated at $3 million and that a federal Environmental Protection Agency grant could help clean up underground storage tanks. ...
