City seeks grants for NewPorte cleanup By Matt Fritz La Porte Herald Argus (IN) December 21, 2011The city of La Porte has filed two grant applications to start the cleanup process at the NewPorte Landing brownfield site. And with its plans to potentially add a softball complex there in the future, some area officials are hoping NewPorte can attract more tourists as well as developers. Mayor Kathy Chroback announced the grant applications at the NewPorte Landing Community Advisory Committee on Tuesday, explaining that one was for the environment assessments at the brownfield sites, to determine any remediation and cleanup necessary, while the other was for actual cleanup work on the Allis-Chalmers site. They were both for $200,000. The city has been in discussions about possibly adding a six field softball complex on the property at Truesdale Avenue and Marquette Street once the site has been remediated. ...
