Study of pollution at Bremerton elementary school nearly complete By Christopher Dunagan Kitsap Sun December 23, 2011BREMERTON - Drilling work is winding down at Crownhill Elementary School on Rocky Point Road, a site once used as a landfill for municipal and industrial wastes. Nothing alarming has been found so far, said Russ Olsen, site manager for the Washington Department of Ecology. He expects a report on the findings to be available in February. A contractor took soil samples this week with a drilling rig. It was the third time this year that workers have been on the site. Each operation has been conducted when students were not around. The first use of the property was for gravel extraction in the 1930s, according to reports from Ecology. Later, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard dumped various wastes there, including sandblast grit, scrap metal, asbestos insulation and metal shavings. ...
