Health care nonprofit may buy polluted Newtown site

The Marian Anderson Place brownfield on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  
Way in Sarasota may have a buyer after more than a decade of effort  
by Sarasota.

SARASOTA - The Marian Anderson Place brownfield, the swath of  
contaminated dirt on the edge of Newtown that for more than a decade  
has been the missing piece in the city's effort to rebuild the area,  
could finally have a buyer.

City redevelopment officials are in early talks with Manatee County  
Rural Health Services, a local nonprofit health care chain that bills  
itself as a key provider of services to the poor.

The city has yet to name a price, which would come after an appraisal  
of the 13-acre parcel near U.S. 301 and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  
Way, and before the City Commission would consider the deal.
