Regulators of Asheville area Superfund site subpoenaed Legislator: EPA staff refused to appear by Joel Burgess Asheville Citizen-Times (NC) February 22, 2012A state House committee investigating a Buncombe County hazardous waste site has taken the rare and possibly unprecedented step of issuing subpoenas for federal environmental regulators based out of Atlanta. The Select Committee to Investigate the Handling of the CTS Contamination Site in Buncombe County on Wednesday issued the summons to appear for four Environmental Protection Agency employees who chairman Rep. Tim Moffitt said have refused to speak to the panel. Residents of the Skyland site have criticized the EPA employees, saying they failed to protect residents from contaminated drinking water and then sought to cover up mistakes. ...
