Faith Christian School seeks pollution pass

GRAPEVINE - The City Council voted last week to support Faith  
Christian School's request to forego cleanup of shallow groundwater  
pollution under the high school property on Dallas Road.

Known as a "municipal setting designation" (MSD), the state-approved  
process allows some property owners to leave pollution in place  
rather removing it.

"We believe an MSD would benefit Faith, its neighbors, the city of  
Grapevine and would protect against future harm or injury resulting  
from the potential consumption of unsafe water," Ed Smith, the  
president of the Faith school, told the council during a public  
hearing prior to the vote.

He said an MSD approval would allow Faith to avoid undertaking "cost- 
prohibitive cleanup measures" as long as the school agrees to  
continue testing and monitoring the groundwater and agrees, through a  
voluntary deed restriction, not to drill a water well for drinking  
water.
