Little Ferry school tested for possible contamination BY KARTHIK AGGARWAL LITTLE FERRY LOCAL MARCH 14, 2012LITTLE FERRY - The state's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has required that the Memorial School be monitored and tested due to ground water contamination at the J.S. Popper site on Liberty Street. Two monitoring wells were installed at the school in late February for underground water sampling. The sampling was conducted March 8. "If there's a problem here, I want to know what it is and how to remediate it. Testing the samples will answer the questions being put forward," said Superintendent Frank Scarafile. Environmental Waste Management Associates (EWMA), an environmental consulting and remediation firm, is conducting the testing on behalf of J.S. Popper Inc. The J.S. Popper site, located at 200 Liberty St., has the solvent trichloroethylene, or TCE, in both soil under the building and in ground water ...
