Lyons Falls redevelopment study suggests focus on mill, adventure
tourism
By STEVE VIRKLER Watertown Daily Times (NY) May 15, 2012LYONS FALLS - A state-funded study of redevelopment possibilities recommends the village focus on an old paper mill site and adventure tourism. The former Lyons Falls Pulp & Paper plant, which shut down in January 2001, "will be a significant catalyst for Village-wide redevelopment and job growth," states a draft version of a study being conducted by Elan Planning, Design & Landscape Architecture of Saratoga Springs. The Center Street mill site, which the Lewis County Development Corp. purchased in January 2011, could be redeveloped for clean energy production, support facilities for back country and adventure tourism, gun-cleaning-related industries, manufacturing of agricultural products and other uses, the study states. ...
