Port Authority continues to lobby for cleanup Ohio Controlling Board awards grant for Steel Ceilings site by Kathie Dickerson Coshocton Tribune (OH) May. 9, 2012COSHOCTON -- Cleaning up any environmental hazards left at the former Steel Ceilings site on North Third Street could attract potential jobs to Coshocton and serve as an inducement to keep 214 jobs in the area, according to the Ohio Department of Development. The Coshocton Port Authority learned this week it will receive a $700,000 grant. ...The Port Authority received more than $300,000 in grants to have Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments performed at the site, which according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency records was used as an on-site storage location for hazardous materials beginning about 1930. Material stored in drums outside on a sand and gravel parking lot was an area of concern disclosed in 1994, when a preliminary assessment and visual site inspection was performed for the U.S. EPA. In addition, two areas of concern are where hazardous waste was stored in drums and had trichloroethylene contaminated soil removed in 1983. ...
