By Eliot Caroom Newark Star-Ledger (NJ) July 31, 2012The plot of land overlooking the Hackensack River has had many incarnations since it was home to the Hackensack Gas Works, which converted coal to gas in the 1860s. It was used by Public Service Electric & Gas for gas storage in the 1900s, and in the last decade the utility had to excavate 300,000 tons of contaminated soil to clean it up. Now the property gets a new lease on life after Ralph Izzo, head of PSEG and Gov. Chris Christie wielded shiny shovels yesterday to break ground for a solar farm. ...
