Yonkers School Turned Affordable-Housing Moves Ahead

YONKERS, N.Y. – A plan to convert an abandoned school lot into a bustling affordable-housing complex is moving forward in Yonkers.

PS 6 Limited Partnership, the development coalition behind the project, has submitted an investigation and suggested cleanup of the PS 6 school-building site to the state's Department of Environmental Conservation.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from Mayor Mike Spano’s office said the two deteriorating buildings at 33 Ashburton Ave., a designated brownfield, might be demolished within the next month.

Remediation and demolition of the site is part of a plan that calls for construction of a two-building, affordable-housing complex providing 50 units of senior housing and 70 units of family low- income housing.
