Southside cleanup site costlier than expectedWhile $56,000 was budgeted, it could cost three times that to clean up Muncie Paper Processing site by Seth Slabaugh Muncie Star-Press (IN) July 31, 2012MUNCIE - A contaminated, overgrown and abandoned industrial site - now owned by the county - is being cleaned up on the south side. But the job is bigger than expected.IWM Consulting Group, Indianapolis, originally estimated it would have to remove 350 tons of soil from one area of the site and another 650 tons from another area. But the amount of soil that has been removed from the first area has grown to 3,000 tons, and excavation of the second area has not yet started. "They came across buried batteries, 55-gallon drums and other contamination that will probably add upwards of $100,000 to the cost of the cleanup," said Brad Bookout, a consultant to county commissioners and brownfield development manager at Energize ECI. ...
