In Attleboro, brownfield cleanup helps spark development BY GEORGE W. RHODES ATTLEBORO SUN CHRONICLE (MA) August 26, 2012ATTLEBORO - While the cleanup of thousands of brownfields throughout the state has been long delayed by lagging funds, Attleboro seems to have done well in getting the money it needs for parcels that are badly polluted or are key to economic development. At least $18.4 million has been poured into the city to scrub contaminated land over the past seven years. More than half of that - $10 million - has gone into the former Walton & Lonsbury property, which officials from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency are hoping to designate a Superfund Site. Such a designation would allow millions more to be spent to scour the property that's leaking poison chemicals into the city's North Avenue neighborhood. ...
