Testing done at GHS fields by Lisa Chamoff Greenwich Time (CT) August 27, 2012Four of Greenwich High School's artificial turf fields have reopened after soil, groundwater and surface water were tested for toxic chemicals. The fields were closed June 25 so the latest round of testing at the high school could be completed during the summer break. The soil was tested for polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs, as well as volatile organic compounds, polynuclear aromatic compounds, metals, pesticides and petroleum hydrocarbons. The results from the most recent round of testing will be released once the data is confirmed and evaluated, by late September or October, according to an update released Friday by the district. Testing was also done during school breaks in December, February and April. ...
