Possible end in sight for hazardous property By John Martin Evansville Courier & Press (IN) August 31, 2012Evansville officials have pushed for years to get the former Swanson- Nunn Electric Co. building at 420 S.E. 8th St. torn down and environmental hazards cleaned up. They are hopeful a resolution is in sight.Swanson-Nunn went bankrupt in 1997. Four years ago, the city filed a complaint after years of testing showed subsurface contamination on the property and surrounding sidewalks and streets. Underground vapors emanating from Swanson-Nunn were blamed for last year's temporary closure of a nearby day care center operated by Carver Community Organization. A new filtration system enabled the center to reopen. ...
