Town seeks proposals to develop old W. Harwich Schoolhouse By Jamie Balliett Cape Codder (MA) October 10, 2012 Harwich - Back to school?Some of Harwich’s historic properties, like the Old Rec Building and the South Harwich Meetinghouse, have gotten much attention over the last few years. Not the West Harwich School. It sits boarded up on an overgrown lot on Bells Neck Road. This is not the first time the town has tried to develop the property, located just a stone’s throw from the First Baptist Church on the corner of Route 28 and Depot Street. The Harwich Ecumenical Council for the Homeless signed an agreement with the town to develop the property in 2009 with 12 affordable housing units. That project was halted when a plume of underground pollution was discovered. ...
