Brighton dry cleaner classified as Superfund site by Justin Murphy Rochester Democrat and Chronicle (NY) November 15, 2012BRIGHTON - The town's chemical corridor on Monroe Avenue got a little dirtier last week when the state Department of Environmental Conservation classified Town & Country Cleaners as a Class Two Superfund site. It is one of three sites on Monroe Avenue where dry cleaning solvents were improperly disposed of. In a news release dated Nov. 8 and distributed Tuesday, the DEC determined the Town & Country site at 2308 Monroe Ave. "presents a significant threat to public health and/ or the environment." The contaminants at issue are tetrachloroethene, or PCE, and trichloroethene, or TCE. Both are dry cleaning chemicals that are toxic to humans, particularly in high concentrations. ...
