Testing finds no contamination at park By SEAN DELANEY Shelby Township Source Newspapers June 25, 2013Shelby Township Attorney Rob Huth recently announced that testing by the Dragun Corporation regarding potential contamination of the Ford Field Central Park baseball diamonds has found that no such danger exists. "The good news is the reports have found no signs of trichloroethylene in the surface areas, so as Dr. (James) Dragun surmised the area is safe for baseball and recreational activities this year," Huth said at the June 18 Board of Trustees meeting. Also known as TCE, trichloroethylene is a degreasing chemical that was commonly used to clean auto parts in the 1950s and 1960s. It is also a known carcinogen. According to the Dragun Corporation, the chemical was thought to be potentially present in the pond and in surface soil at the property due to the presence of TCE identified in groundwater at the former Ford/Visteon site, which is located nearby on 23 Mile Road east of Mound Road. ...
