Bessemer City Council grants tax breaks to Consolidated Pipe for
brownfield project
Jesse Chambers Birmingham News (AL) July 17, 2013BESSEMER, Alabama -- The Bessemer city council voted Tuesday to authorize Mayor Kenneth Gulley to execute a brownfield development agreement with Consolidated Pipe & Supply Co. Inc. that will grant the firm some tax breaks in return for a major renovation of an existing industrial facility and the creation of new jobs. The Birmingham firm is buying and planning a major overhaul of the Baumann Coatings Co. facility located at 2095 Fourth Ave. SW in Bessemer. Consolidated will spend $7,850,000 on the project, according to the text of the resolution passed by the council. This sum will include both the cost of the land and the renovation of the facility, according to Bessemer City Attorney Shan Paden. ...
