Sen. Brown pushes brownfield legislation WKBN (Youngstown, OH) July 17, 2013,U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown hosted a teleconference Wednesday talking about Brownfield sites across the state and the country. There are more than 250 of the sites in Ohio and Brown is proposing new legislation that would provide additional tools for communities to clean up the old industrial sites for economic re-development. "These brownfields don't belong in neighborhoods where children walk to school. They don’t belong in communities where businesses seek new customers," Brown said. Brown is urging Congress to pass the Brownfields Utilization, Investment and Local Development Act. The legislation would modernize and improve key elements of the EPA’s brownfields program, which includes making non-profit groups eligible for assessment grants and allows the EPA to award multipurpose grants to help speed up redevelopment and streamline the clean-up process. ...
